stainless-steel-deep-fryer Waring Pro DF55 Professional Mini 1-2/7-Pound-Capacity Stainless-Steel Deep Fryer Best small fryer!

Reviewer: T SR,
I originally bought the Cuisinart CDF-100 fryer because this unit was always out of stock. This was the one I wanted. The Cusinart fried good, but clean up was a lot more time consuming. You had to pour water in the unit while its on your countertop. With this, the oil box is seperate from the base. You can throw it in the dishwasher or wash under the sink. It has a lot of plastic parts, this has a lot of stainless steel.

This basket is nice and big, the side walls of the oil box are high and probably double the size of the Cusinart, less oil splattering everywhere. The cusinart has a charcoal filter for smell. I fry with peanut oil, the oil has no smell compared with cheaper veggie or canola oil. This unit has no charcoal filter, you don't need it. Lots of condensation would occur if there was a filter. Everytime I opened the lid to the Cuisinart, I had to wipe inside of the lid, if not, the water would drip in the oil and you get the popping sounds from the oil.

So why do I have this after I have the Cusinart? The basket on the Cusinart rest on the bottom of the frying box. The interior of the box is coated with a thin non stick coating. The coating got scratched in a few spots and I'm not going to fry in that. This happened after only a few weeks after I bought here on Amazon. Amazon's policy is returned only if unopened or defective. I didn't want to deal with the hassle and just ordered this. I'll probably give Cusinart a call soon. But its not worth it to me if it will cost me money to ship it, I would rather throw it away. With this Waring unit, the basket rest on the heating elements. The heating elements do not touch the bottom.

Spend the extra few bucks for this unit and you might have to wait because this is always selling out.

Three nice things about this fryer: 1) temperature control goes to 375 (better browning) 2)Fry basket is well made and feels solid 3) frying well is easy to remove to empty and clean. Over-all, a better fryer than the small Cusinart it replaced (and for less money).
stainless-steel-deep-fryer Waring Pro DF55 Professional Mini 1-2/7-Pound-Capacity Stainless-Steel Deep Fryer Great Little Fryer !!!

Our son will only eat chicken strips and french fries (unfortunately). So we have gone through a lot of deep fryers. He's older now and I was sick of cleaning out the huge fryer, buying tons of oil, only to dump and clean again. So we bought a Presto fryer that was absolutely terrible! Threw that one away, and tried this one which works great. It has a deep basket that holds a lot of food (1/2 large bag of chicken nuggets!), it holds 8 cups oil at the max fill line, heats up fast and temps recover quickly between foods. The chicken strips and fries come out nice and crispy. And it takes up very little counter space.

The only problem I found is the basket raises too high (clips on an inside ledge) so the cover does not stay completely on when you are draining food. But I just place the lid over the basket and slowly raise it up. We've had no problems with oil splattering. This is a great appliance. I would buy another one if it ever breaks.

I've been shopping for fryers for about 3 months with little to no real success. After avoiding this fryer and that fryer -- either for not getting hot enough or being utterly impossible to clean, I think we've found a winner. This little fryer has 3 big things going for it and to top it off, it's cheap!

Best Qualities of the DF55:
1) Very easy to clean, the fryer pan is heavily coated and completely removable from the base of the unit. You can easily separate EVERY part of this fryer to clean it up!
2) It gets HOT - Very much a true 375 degree fryer. I hooked it up and cranked up the dial and I get excellent golden-crisped food out of it.
3) It's very nice and compact, perfect for a small family. It doesn't take up very much room on the counter-top and it's quite attractive.

Worst Qualities of the DF55:
1) Magnetic power cord attachment -- It's a safety feature, but it can easily come detached if you just move the fryer.
2) Fryer basket handle does not fold down to clear out of the way when not in use.

This is just my take, but if you're looking for a great quality mini deep fryer... Skip the rest and get the Waring Pro.

The Waring Pro DF55 is well designed, looks great, and fits perfectly in small spaces. It is easy to set up, heats up fast, and cleaning is a breeze. I agree with the previous review about the magnet power cord. However just about every fryer for the consumer market will have this safety feature. Having said that, if the fryer or the power cord is not moved, everything works just fine.

The size is perfect when frying food for two people. The capacity is 1 1/2 pound. It takes about 2 1/2 quarts of good quality oil to reach the max oil level.

As for oil, use only oil with high smoke point. This prevents the oil from burning (start to smoke) and changing the chemical composition of the oil. Refined Saffola oil is a great choice with a smoke point of 450F.

Now I have the perfect fryer for those times when high quality french fries are a must.

I am so glad I chose this deep fryer. All the parts are metal with very little plastic to be found. I just fried up a batch of cake do-nuts in mine and it worked like a charm. It heated up fast and did not impart any fowl smell in my house. I can not wait to make french fries in this little baby. Clean up is easy because everything comes apart. Thank you to all of the folks that posted reviews on this fryer that helped me to decide the right one for me.

We had the large version of this fryer but it took a LOT of oil to fill it correctly and took a lot of counter space. This is perfect. It deep fries perfectly - crisp on the outside and yummy (not cold still) on the inside. This fits our counter space perfectly and takes a normal amount of oil to fill it. It's professional quality made and really just what we needed.

I love this little fryer, is small enough for small jobs and big enough to handle a little bigger ones. Cleans easily. I owned another small and it was a lot of work to clean it but this one is just very easy with all the parts coming off.

I started with the Presto 1 quart frier which is a small round gadget. Despite having a 390 setting, it never got hot enough, and its basket was too small to hold more than a few fries. So, I returned it and got the Waring D55 instead.

The Plusses --

Very easy to clean; it completely disassembles
Gets hot enough to make crispy fries
Has a large enough, and square enough, basket to be practical
Has a light that shows when it has reached the correct temperature

There weren't any minuses. I can't imagine having a problem with the electrical cord being held in magnetically; I put the frier on the counter, fill it with oil, and turn it on. I don't see any reason why I would manage to disconnect the cord except for some kind of "accident", which is its purpose.

So far, I am very pleased with the Waring Pro D55. It really is the right size and it does what I want it to do really well.

I took about a week before buying this deep fryer and I'm glad I took that time to read reviews and product features of MANY MANY deep fryers. All different brands and sizes. I am absolutely thrilled over this one I purchased. Basket was a lot deeper than I had expected and the thickness of the lid and shell were of MUCH better quality than I expected. It heats up FAST and recovery time is excellent. For one or 2 people this is PERFECT. 5 STAR .......EXCELLENT in EVER way !!! Would definately buy and recommend this one again ! In todays "not so good quality" this is in a class of its own.

Reviewer: backabit,
Just got my DF55 today in the mail. I read the directions, cleaned the parts, added oil, and plugged it in. I have already made beer battered onion rings, fried green tomatoes, and donuts. They all turned out perfect. I was searching all over to find things to deep fry. I couldn't come up with anything else just yet so I turned it off and I already have it cleaned up. The clean up was so quick and easy. I am now resting my stomache and thought I would write my review. If you are looking for a smaller deep fryer then look no further. There is just 2 of us and it is the perfect size.
I am getting off the subject real quick and tell you about my donuts. I haven't made these in years. I opened up a roll of buttermilk biscuits. I took the cap off my bottle of vanilla extract and used it to cut the centers out of my biscuits. Dropped them into my deep fryer until brown. Let them cool and then made my glaze and rolled the cool cooked donuts in the glaze mixture. I just used powdered sugar and a little milk for the glaze. Not too runny and not too thick. They were perfect and didn't last long...
Just love this deep fryer. I am now heading out to my pond and catch some fish. Can't wait to see how the fish turns out!! Here fishy fishy......

I've had this fryer for a couple of months and generally like it for home use. The safety plug is a little painful to use, but I guess with a bunch of hot fat around its probably worth the hassle.

The good
- it heats up quickly especially with the cover on. Usually ready in about 5 minutes or so
- It is easy to clean up, you remove the heating element and then remove the enamel coating insert and pour out the oil. Most of the pieces are dishwasher safe so the clean up is straight forward.
- Heat recovers fairly quickly in between batches.
- I have made several batches of really good french fries, sweet potato fries, and fried squid in this unit using olive oil as the base

Not so good
- when filled to the proper mark it will overflow if you are not careful how you add the food and carefully shake/move the basket until the overflow settles down. Walls should probably be an inch higher
- there is a fair amount of odor, you can definitely tell food has been fried in the house

Overall, this fryer is pretty good. The capacity is great for 1 or 2 people and it heats/cooks very quickly. My only complaints about the item are minor. First, since the power cord connects via magnet, the slightest bump often disconnect is; this is just a minor annoyance. Second, although there IS a little latch on which to hang a basket that has been removed from the oil, there's not much space to shake the basket in order to rid the foods you've cooked of extra grease.

....this fryer is perfect size for individual cook sessions, perfect for small fry batches. I got this for falafel, etc. since the closest restaurant with Middle/Far Eastern style food is 50 miles away. The fry basket is somewhat lightweight gage, but does what it's supposed to do - have yet to test fryer with thermometer but seems to cook fine. The magnetic type plug is ingenious. Great item!

We used to have the larger one, WARING PRO COOL TOUCH DEEP FRYER 1800 WATTS ELECTRONIC LCD TIMER, but wore out. We replaced with this smaller model which I like since it takes up less counter space. It takes a little longer to heat up duet to the wattage difference (300 less than the larger one) and miss the built in timer but otherwise does the job. We make sure not to cover it as soon as fries are put in but let the oil die down otherwise the oil overspills. I definitely think buying any less wattage for a fryer it would not do nearly as well.

I'm not usually one to jump all over a product that just fails after one use, but come on, that's just unfair. I had high expectations that this deep fryer would save me from turning the oven on with stuff like french fries, onion rings, etc. I put the unit together, purchased two big bottles of canola oil, filled it just below the max line and attempted to fry 1/4 basket of frozen fries. It took 6 minutes to heat up to 375 degrees and 5 minutes to cook and they came out pretty good for a first attempt. You could taste the canola oil off them, but it's just trial and error with these things to get food tasting right with various oils, etc. So far, so good! Next day, attempted the same thing. Plugged in the power socket and immediately noticed that the ready light was on as well as the power light which usually indicates that the fryer is up to the temp dialed in. Problem was, I had just turned it on, so I left it for 5 minutes to see if it heated up...nothing but cold oil. Tried the reset button, nothing. Made sure it was seated correctly; it was. Spent another hour messing around with it watching both the power light and the ready light continuously on and praying it would heat up the oil...Failed. So, basically I received a defective product. Now, I could have just returned it for a replacement and tried it all over again, but I've lost confidence in the brand already. Reading other reviews; obviously others are enjoying this fryer, but if something fails on you pretty much immediately, you'd be skeptical of giving the manufacturer another chance, so I chose not to. I'll still look for a deep fryer sometime down the road and give it another go, but not for a while, because my confidence has already been shaken after using this one. Thank God for Amazon's easy return policy!

Ordered this machine as it is small (storage problem), and promised to heat to 375. I deep fry mainly seafood and temp is critical. On 1st use, heated fresh peanut oil, took the temp with candy thermometer, found it only reached 350. Fried the seafood, but myself and guests found it to be greasy. Checked the candy theremometer, and it was accurate. Thanks to Amazon's great return policy, returned the item and reordered. Was delivered within the week. Few days later, with more guests, heated the new one and to my dismay, the temp came to only 325. As I had shrimp, squid, scallops & guests, I resorted to the Martha Stewart method. I very carefully poured the 325 oil into a stock pot, attached the candy thermometer, and heated to 375. Result was crisp tasty seafood,(although the cooktop was heavily splattered with oil from the sputtering squid). Would not recommend this fryer if you need optimal heat. Noticed other reviews on this unit, as well as the next larger size by Waring that could not reach 375.
